20th Anniversary Event: two days of learning and activities with special guest teacher
Ayurveda and Yoga weekend with Harshini Wikramanayake
10th & 11th May 2025
Saturday 10th: 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Sunday 11th: 10:00 am - 2:30 pm (including Ayurvedic lunch)
What to expect: Ayurveda is one of the oldest systems of healthcare. The objective of Ayurveda is to rebalance an individual’s “dosas” to ensure wellness, health and happiness. In Sanskrit, “dosa” is defined as a “fault, mistake or impurity” but commonly used to specify an individual’s constitution type. These constitution types are Vata, Pitta and Kapha or a combination.
On the Saturday you will be introduced to the principles of Ayurveda, including lifestyle advice on ways to balance the dosas (elements of our constitution) for greater physical and mental health. Refreshments will be provided at the end of the day.
Over the weekend you will also have the opportunity to have an individual pulse reading from Harshini to determine your constitution. This helps to tailor the diet and lifestyle advice to you as an individual.
On Sunday there will be an asana (yoga poses) and pranayama (breathing exercises) class, followed by an Ayurvedic lunch.
Teaching this course: Harshini grew up in Colombo, Sri Lanka in a family that frequently used Ayurvedic Medicine to complement Western Medicine. She left Colombo in her late teens to attend university in Canada.
As she moved to North America for university and pursued a career in Brand Management for a large multinational company, Harshini lost contact with many of her family’s Ayurvedic practices. In an attempt to find balance in her high paced, stressful corporate life, Harshini began to practice Iyengar Yoga, which in turn led to a rediscovery of her traditional medicine roots.
Harshini’s experience of Iyengar Yoga inspired her to transform her life - ultimately leaving the corporate world to train to be an Iyengar Yoga Teacher as well as returning to university to study Ayurvedic Medicine. Harshini has since earned First-class Honours BSc and MSc degrees in Ayurvedic Medicine, complementing her Master’s and Honour’s Business Administration degrees. More recently, Harshini has been studying Functional Medicine, completing AFMCP - UK in 2017.
Suitable for: Everyone. All levels of yoga experience are welcome.
Cost: Full weekend including lunch, refreshments and a copper tongue-scraper is £100 (concessions available).
Recordings: This is an in-person only event and will not be recorded. Handouts will be provided.
