Teacher Feature - Nidhi Nanda

Our teachers are all going through a journey, just like you. We have been talking to them to find out more about their passions, their reasons for practicing yoga and what they enjoy outside of their teaching. Our new Teacher Feature is for the wonderful Nidhi Nanda who will also be leading our New Starter Course in October...Which class do you teach ?I teach the Friday 5.45pm beginners class . Plus I’m part of the teacher rota for the Saturday morning class at 10.amHow long have you been practicing Iyengar yoga ?I’ve been practising Iyengar yoga for over 10 yrs .How long have you been teaching Iyengar yoga ?I qualified in July 2018 and began teaching immediately. It is satisfying to spread the benefits of Iyengar yoga to individuals to enhance their life as Iyengar yoga has enhanced my life.What drew you to this style of yoga ?I have tried and practised various styles of yoga and it was the precision , detail  ,clarity and alignment particularly that drew me to Iyengar yoga .Plus the sequential progression of movement helping to move more deeply into oneself.What do you love most about it ?The benefits of vitality and wellness - makes me feel positive physically, mentally, emotionally and psychologically giving inner strength and a happy spirit. You feel stable and steady to cope with life’s ups and downs. Keeping calm in a busy world.What do you do to motivate yourself to do a regular home practice?As it’s part of my culture and the fact I’ve been practising yoga from a young age  I feel it’s now part of me so I practise daily even just for 10 -15 mins . If I ‘m feeling tired the yoga relaxes and energies me.What is special for you about teaching at Sheffield Iyengar yoga Centre?I love the fact that the Centre offers a really good choice of classes for all ages, those with health conditions and injuries and all levels. Helping us all to develop and transform. I love being part of the close Iyengar community that the Centre fosters.When I am not teaching yoga I enjoy......Walking and have had several treks to the Himalayas and Andes.I enjoy freestyle embroidery and knitting. Love baking.Love theatre and dancing.A book I would recommend ......The Tree of Yoga by B K Iyengar- an inspirational book for everyone to enjoy a happy healthy life . I discovered this book on my teacher training and have presented to my sister and friends .NB :As a member of the SADYI you are welcome to borrow books free from the Sheffield Iyengar Yoga Centre .
